First, make it a habit to laugh at our mistakes. As we get all wrapped up in the tasks at hand, we often allow those things around us to mold our schedules and even our attitudes to reflect ‘our jobs’ not necessarily ourselves.
Be quick to laugh at your mistakes. The truth is that every one makes mistakes. It is a daily occurrence in life, so make the most of it. Being perfect might be a perfect thing to do, but the truth is none of us are perfect. It helps our self confidence to realize this simple fact, and to stop demanding perfect from ourselves.
So, if you can’t help but make a few blunders, then don’t stop yourself from having a good laugh about them. Trust me, others are secretly laughing at your mistakes. Why not you, too?
Secondly, meet the day ahead with a personal challenge to meet. Look at your projects as a puzzle to solve, or a game to complete, or even as a part in a play. By doing this, you can enter into any hard task with a more focused outlook. In this way you can view it more as a hobby than a miserable task that you have to do. This adventure based attitude can change a drudgery into a challenge.
Maybe today’s personal challenge could be an internal secret. For example, let’s decide that today is ‘Think Like A Pirate Day’. I know that’s a little weird, but humor me here.
So every time you answer the phone or deal with someone, give yourself the liberty to think inside your head that you are a scallywag of a pirate thrown into this normal domestic situation. What would a pirate do differently than you?
You may just want to chuckle to yourself about what you come up with, or maybe even talk or act it out. That would certainly leave a lasting impression on others. Whether letting your internal secret out for others to see is a good idea or not, I’ll leave that up to you.
Practicing these two funny steps over and over will help you to see your world in less of a demanding way, and help you to see it as YOUR world. In this way you are actually building self confidence through the act of taking charge of your life, not allowing life to take charge of you.
So, are you game, Matey?
